Asbestos Awareness
Asbestos hazards are addressed in specific standards for general industry and shipyard employment. OSHA’s general industry regulation 29 CFR 1910.1001, Occupational Exposure to Asbestos, requires that all employees who could come into contact with materials that might contain asbestos be given appropriate training on working safely in these situations. OSHA's construction standard 29 CFR 1926.1101 establishes four classes of construction work involving asbestos. Classes I - III work involves installing or disturbing materials that might contain asbestos. The goal of this training is to educate learners about the dangers of working with materials that may contain asbestos.

Following this training, employees should have a competent understanding of the following:

• Hazards and Health concerns related to asbestos
• OSHA's Standard on asbestos.
• Nature of asbestos.
• Types of materials that may contain asbestos
• Protecting yourself for potential asbestos laced material
